David Rush, a resident of the U.S. state of Idaho, practiced continuously for five months to break the world record for flipping plastic cups, and ultimately succeeded.
He flipped 10 cups in just 6.63 seconds, breaking the previous record of 7.57 seconds. David Rush, who holds over 200 Guinness World Records, stated that the idea to break the record for flipping 10 cups in a short time actually came to him during a challenge between him and his partner, Alex. According to Rush, he submitted his application right away and hoped to break the record within a few weeks, but reality turned out to be quite different. After weeks of practice, Rush became skilled enough that about 50 percent of the flipped cups were landing correctly, but even this success rate was not enough to consistently flip 10 cups successfully in a row.
According to David Rush, if the probability of each cup landing correctly is 50 percent, a successful attempt of 10 consecutive correct flips is expected only about once in every one thousand tries. Due to this difficulty, he had to practice for a total of five months before he was able to accomplish the required feat.
