Pakistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have agreed to expedite the execution of development projects and enhance private sector participation across key economic sectors. The consensus was reached during high-level meetings between ADB Vice President Yingming Yang, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema, and Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb.
During the meeting with Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, discussions focused on institutional reforms within Pakistan Railways and strategic infrastructure projects, including the Main Line-1 (ML-1) railway initiative. ADB Vice President Yingming Yang proposed the formation of a joint working group to drive institutional reforms in Pakistan Railways. In a separate meeting with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the ADB official emphasized the importance of maintaining fiscal discipline during Pakistan’s transition toward sustainable growth, while Minister Aurangzeb commended the ADB’s continued support for the government’s structural reform agenda.
