Statements made by religious scholar Dr. Ali Waqar Qadri during a private television program have drawn severe backlash across social media, with online users criticizing his choice of words and demanding a public apology.
Speaking on the show Qutb Online hosted by Bilal Qutb, Dr. Qadri addressed the tendency among Muslims to rely solely on supplication (dua) without taking practical action. He noted that while people pray for victory in Gaza, the destruction of Israel, and an end to corruption in Pakistan, they often look toward the United States during difficult times. During the discussion, the scholar remarked that “Allah must laugh at our prayers,” subsequently clarifying that God granted humans intellect, scriptures, and a code of life, making practical effort essential alongside prayer.Citing the companions of the Prophet (PBUH), he highlighted that they engaged in active effort alongside worship and prayer. However, social media users strongly objected to attributing the act of laughing to Allah, while also criticizing the host and panel for laughing during the discussion.
