In a major legislative development, a high-level technical committee constituted on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has reached consensus on key amendments to Christian Personal Laws and the Christian Marriage Act in Punjab.
Chaired by Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, the committee approved presenting the Christian Marriage Amendment Act before the provincial assembly. A central feature of the proposed reforms is the implementation of an online marriage registration system designed to eliminate record discrepancies, ensure transparency, and protect the legal rights of the Christian community.
Additionally, the committee decided to extend religious education and examination facilities to prison inmates belonging to minority faiths, establishing a dedicated framework to appoint certified religious teachers. Minister Ramesh Singh Arora reiterated that updating personal laws and safeguarding minority rights form an integral component of the Punjab government’s inclusive policy vision.
