Implementation of targeted measures under the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms has yielded significant operational improvements at Port Qasim, pushing total annual cargo handling from 45 million tons to 47 million tons.
Key operational upgrades include continuous capital and maintenance dredging to preserve mandatory draft depths for deep-sea vessels,Alongside structured improvements in port logistics and customs management. The introduction of a faceless customs assessment system has enhanced transparency and streamlined cargo clearance, raising average revenue collection per Goods Declaration (GD) from PKR 6.8 million to PKR 7.9 million.
Following these administrative and operational overhauls, Port Qasim achieved international recognition in the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index, securing a position among the top five most improved ports globally over the past five years. Officials underscored that modernized port services and digital customs integration continue to strengthen Pakistan’s primary industrial trade corridor.
