Paleontologists have uncovered the first-ever continuous trackway of footprints left by a fully grown Tyrannosaurus rex, dating back more than 66 million years.
The discovery was made in the Hell Creek Formation, a region renowned for dinosaur fossils, after a local schoolteacher initially spotted the site. Researchers from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in Colorado and Liverpool John Moores University in the UK subsequently identified four massive, three-toed footprints stretching across a path of approximately 23 feet.
Each footprint measures roughly 3.3 feet in length, offering scientists unprecedented insights into the gait and locomotion of the apex predator. Experts estimate the tracks to be around 66.5 million years old. While isolated T. rex footprints and tracks from juvenile dinosaurs have been documented previously, this discovery represents the first verified continuous trail of a walking adult Tyrannosaurus rex.
