Cricket Scotland and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB) have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over sudden format alterations to the 2027 ODI World Cup qualification structure, introduced less than 18 months before the tournament.
Under the newly adjusted format, the 12th, 13th, and 14th qualified teams will compete in a newly introduced “Super Series,” with only a single team advancing to the next stage of the World Cup. Both cricket boards emphasized that this structural shift drastically restricts opportunities for Associate nations and undermines global development initiatives built over recent years.
Despite holding two joint meetings alongside other Associate boards to request written clarifications and better consultation, Cricket Scotland and the KNCB reported receiving no official response from the ICC two weeks after the last discussion. Both governing bodies warned that abrupt modifications to qualification pathways disrupt long-term financial planning, player preparation, and team logistics, calling on the ICC to restore transparent dialogue with Associate members.
