The Turkish town of Kelkit has officially etched its name into the Guinness World Records after cooking a monumental batch of baked beans. Local authorities and organizers prepared approximately 1,807 gallons—equivalent to roughly 6,840 liters or about 15,000 standard cans of beans—on August 22.
The record-breaking dish featured the region’s prized agricultural specialty known locally as Kelkit Şeker Fasulyesi. Organizers shared that the milestone serves as a historic achievement for Kelkit, Gümüşhane, and the broader region, shining an international spotlight on local produce, agricultural heritage, and community collaboration. With this feat, Kelkit surpassed the previous record of 1,479.36 gallons to claim the title for cooking the largest single portion of baked beans in the world. Local officials celebrated the victory as a profound source of pride for the area’s agricultural identity.
