China’s 13-year-old swimming sensation Yu Zidi continued her stellar run at the Asian Games, capturing her third gold medal by winning the women’s 400-meter individual medley.
Dominating the race from start to finish, Yu clocked a remarkable time of 4 minutes and 28.56 seconds to set a new Asian Games record, shattering the previous record set in 2014 by roughly four and a half seconds. Her performance marked the fourth-fastest time globally this year. Teammate Ke Wenxi secured the silver medal for China, while Japan’s Mio Narita took home the bronze.
This latest triumph adds to Yu’s earlier victories in the 200-meter butterfly and 200-meter individual medley, completing a clean sweep of her individual events at the games. Meanwhile, in other major highlights from the multi-sport event, North Korean weightlifter Ri Song Gum set three world records on her way to clinching her third Asian Games gold in the women’s 49kg category.
