Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique achieved a historical milestone in Test cricket during the ongoing second Test match against the West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain. Resuming Day 3 alongside captain Babar Azam, Shafique anchored Pakistan’s first innings, carrying his bat to finish unbeaten on 160 off 323 deliveries (including 15 fours and 3 sixes) as Pakistan posted 387 all out.
With this knock, Shafique became the first Pakistani batter in 49 years to score over 150 runs in a Test match on Caribbean soil, breaking a drought that stood since Majid Khan’s 167 in Guyana in 1977. He joins an elite list of Pakistani batting legends—Hanif Mohammad, Wazir Mohammad, Majid Khan, and Saeed Ahmed—who have crossed the 150-run mark in the West Indies.
Shafique’s marathon effort yielded a 43-run first-innings lead for Pakistan. By stumps on Day 3, Pakistan’s spin attack reduced West Indies to 103/6 in their second innings, leaving the hosts with a narrow 60-run lead and putting Pakistan in a strong position to level the series.
