.Popular instant messaging platform WhatsApp is developing a new feature aimed at helping users keep track of friends’ and family members’ birthdays directly within the application.
Spotted in recent iOS beta versions, the update introduces a dedicated Contacts tab that incorporates birthday reminders. Rather than requiring users to manually input dates into a separate database, the application automatically pulls birthday information already stored within the device’s native address book.
When a saved contact celebrates a birthday, WhatsApp displays a cake emoji alongside a “Birthday today” label directly beneath the person’s name. This notification remains visible throughout the day in the new navigation layout—which also relocates status updates and channels—ensuring users can easily send timely greetings without needing to cross-reference external calendar applications. The feature is currently undergoing testing and has not yet received a formal public rollout date.
