Organized to coincide with the national Heritage Day celebrations, the high-energy event featured approximately 500 grill stations where participants cooked up staple favorites like boerewors sausages, burgers, and steaks. Organizers had targeted an attendance of around 3,000 people to comfortably surpass the previous benchmark set in Ishigaki, Japan, in 2023, where 2,220 individuals grilled simultaneously.

Under strict observation by Guinness World Records adjudicators, the rules mandated that all participants had to actively barbecue simultaneously for a minimum of five minutes without leaving their designated posts to qualify. While thousands turned out in a vibrant display of the nation’s multicultural culinary tradition, final certifications faced technical hurdles regarding adherence to continuous station occupancy rules during the review process.
