Tensions between Asian cricket authorities and Indian sports officials deepened following the Women’s T20 Asia Cup final, as the winning Indian squad declined to accept the championship trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Sources within the ACC confirmed that standard presentation protocols had been arranged ahead of the ceremony, with the trophy made available on stage. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) maintained its directive against receiving trophies directly from top Pakistani sports leaders, marking the second such incident in a multi-nation tournament over the past year. Alternate proposals—including having ACC Deputy Chairman Khalid Al Zarooni or winning board officials present the silverware—were rejected during negotiations, resulting in the ceremony concluding without the champions receiving the physical trophy.
The Indian delegation reiterated that its stance remains aligned with broader political and institutional guidelines. Meanwhile, ACC officials affirmed that established council guidelines govern trophy handovers and indicated that the physical trophy will remain held in institutional custody pending administrative resolution.
