: U.S. President Donald Trump has officially nominated Republican Congressman and former military officer Wesley Hunt to serve as the new United States Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, filling a diplomatic post that remained vacant during regional tensions involving Iran.
According to AFP, Hunt’s formal nomination has been submitted to the U.S. Senate, where it will undergo confirmation hearings and a floor vote. Hunt brings prior regional experience to the role, having served as a U.S. Army officer with deployments in the Middle East and approximately two years of diplomatic liaison experience based in Saudi Arabia.
Reacting to his nomination, Hunt stated that his military background and familiarity with the Kingdom give him a deep appreciation for the strategic importance of the U.S.–Saudi partnership. He emphasized his commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and advancing mutual security and diplomatic objectives upon Senate confirmation.
