In alignment with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to ensure clean drinking water at citizens’ doorsteps, a major rehabilitation and upgradation project for Faisalabad’s water supply system has been initiated with the collaboration of the German agency KfW.
The initiative is scheduled to be presented for formal approval today during the 7th meeting of the Punjab Development Working Party (PDWP), with Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal in attendance. Estimated to cost approximately Rs14.2 billion, the four-year project aims to completely overhaul the city’s water supply infrastructure, including the restoration and modernization of the Gulshan Water Treatment Plant.
Key components of the development plan involve installing 10 new tube wells across Faisalabad and constructing major overhead/underground water storage tanks in Samanabad, Bismillah Chowk, and Gulshan Colony. Furthermore, a modern monitoring system will be deployed to curb water theft and systemic waste. Officials noted that 5 percent of the total project cost has been specifically allocated for “green resilience” measures, which will ultimately benefit millions of residents in Faisalabad and its surrounding areas.
