Formal negotiations between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have commenced for the fourth economic review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) alongside the third review of the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).

During the ongoing sessions, Pakistani economic teams provided comprehensive briefings to the visiting IMF delegation regarding key structural measures. Discussions heavily featured updates on the Pakistan Sovereign Wealth Fund, strategies for curbing power and gas sector circular debt, and ongoing steps toward fiscal consolidation.

The extensive two-week review will evaluate performance targets through June 2026, encompassing tax reforms, state-owned enterprise privatization, and energy sector overhauls. Successful conclusion of the talks is expected to pave the way for a staff-level agreement, unlocking subsequent financial tranches under the ongoing multi-billion-dollar programs.
