: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has stated that under the Makkah joint defense agreement, an attack on any single member state will prompt a collective, consultative response by all three allied nations.
In an interview with Arab television, the military spokesperson elaborated that if any country party to the Makkah defense pact is targeted, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey will jointly assess the situation and formulate a coordinated course of action. Addressing regional security, he noted that while India is allocating massive resources to expand its military might, Pakistan’s defense capabilities remain strictly geared toward national protection, emphasizing that Islamabad has no desire to enter an arms race and harbors no aggressive designs against any state. However, he made it clear that Pakistan not only possesses the capability to defend itself effectively but also holds the full capacity to respond to and punish any aggression.
Commenting on the division of state roles, the DG ISPR reiterated that the nation’s political objectives and overarching national goals are determined exclusively by the civilian political leadership, maintaining that the military and the state share unified objectives.
Turning to the situation in Afghanistan, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry pointed to UN reports highlighting the presence of dozens of terrorist outfits on Afghan soil. He asserted that the Taliban regime is training terror elements involved in attacks inside Pakistan, reiterating Islamabad’s core demand that Afghan territory must not be allowed to be used for terrorism against Pakistan.
Addressing operational specifics regarding the Makkah Pact, the military spokesman explained that tactical details and enforcement mechanisms of mutual defense commitments are kept confidential for security reasons. He underscored that the agreement has drawn no external objections, as its fundamental purpose is to preserve regional peace, strengthen collective defense capabilities, and provide mutual support rather than target any third party. Furthermore, he clarified that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey will maintain their independent foreign relations, as the defense pact serves as a complementary framework rather than a replacement for other international alliances.
