Leaving Hair Oiled Overnight Is Not Beneficial, Experts Reveal Potential Risks.

Must read

In the pursuit of beautiful and healthy locks, many women follow traditional routines by applying hair oil and leaving it on overnight, a practice older generations often consider highly beneficial for hair health.

While proper hair care can certainly incorporate oiling as part of a routine, experts emphasize that any benefit depends on correct application. Modern research and available information challenge common assumptions regarding overnight oiling. Specialists warn that keeping oil on the scalp for extended periods can negatively affect or block hair follicles.

Experts have also noted that leaving oil in the hair for too long can sometimes lead to facial breakouts known as “pomade acne,” particularly when the oil transfers from the hair onto the facial skin. Additionally, prolonged oil retention has been linked to “seborrheic dermatitis,” a scalp condition that can cause symptoms such as itching, flaking, and inflammation. Consequently, experts advise avoiding leaving oil in hair for longer than necessary rather than keeping it applied for excessive durations.
