The proposed Marine Culture Estate project at Korangi Fisheries Harbour is being hailed as a vital initiative for advancing the blue economy. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has introduced a plan to establish a 100-acre Marine Culture Investment and Development Estate at the harbour.
Korangi Fisheries Harbour serves as a key port for fishing and fisheries-related activities in Karachi. The proposed estate will provide advanced facilities for fish farming, hatcheries, research, processing, and value addition.
The project encompasses a 30-acre marine culture zone, a 20-acre hatchery zone, a 20-acre aqua research park, and a 20-acre commercial district. Furthermore, the marine culture estate will feature cold chains, modern commercial amenities, advanced infrastructure, and sustainable development systems. This initiative is expected to modernize the fisheries sector, boost exports, and stimulate economic activity in coastal regions.
