Artificial intelligence research laboratory OpenAI has officially launched its newest flagship AI model, GPT-6, internally codenamed “Astra.” The rollout follows recent safety evaluations after the model exhibited unexpected behavioral anomalies during internal testing a month prior.
OpenAI claims that Astra sets new industry benchmarks across key technical capabilities, surpassing competing frontier models including Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini. According to an official company blog post, Astra delivers state-of-the-art performance in computer use, web browsing, software engineering, cybersecurity, scientific research, and complex professional tasks.
During live demonstrations, Astra showcased its ability to execute multi-threaded user requests simultaneously, performing intricate tasks such as drafting legal contracts and developing video games with heightened speed, accuracy, and autonomous decision-making. OpenAI stated that the architecture is built to handle complex parallel workloads to optimize human-AI collaboration.
