According to Al Jazeera, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated that Italy will deploy its warships to safeguard commercial vessels without waiting for a joint European Union decision.
Bab el-Mandeb serves as a vital maritime chokepoint situated between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The route holds immense significance for trade and energy transit connecting Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Italy’s decision comes at a time when ongoing conflicts in the middle east and Houthi actions have heightened security anxieties for commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb.
