Staggering Inflation: Petrol and Diesel Prices Surge by Rs 59 and Rs 32 Respectively Over a Month.

The federal government has continued its upward revision of petroleum prices, recording a massive surge of nearly Rs 59 in petrol and Rs 32 in high-speed diesel over the past month amid mounting public distress and nationwide protests.

According to details, the daily price determination mechanism for petroleum products—initiated by the government on July 18, 2026—has led to an unrelenting streak of price hikes. Fuel prices have risen continuously over the past eight days, including today’s notification for September 16, which hiked petrol by another Rs 4.10 per liter and high-speed diesel by Rs 6.41.

Following these adjustments, the price of petrol has climbed to Rs 384.34 per liter, while high-speed diesel has reached Rs 415.83 per liter. Over the last ten days alone, petrol has jumped by Rs 39 and diesel by Rs 31, compounding a total one-month increase of roughly Rs 60 for petrol and Rs 31–32 for diesel.

The relentless price escalation comes just days after the Prime Minister announced relief packages for motorcyclists, rickshaws, and small vehicle owners—measures that critics argue are being outstripped by daily soaring fuel rates. While the Petroleum Division maintains that OGRA’s daily pricing reflects surging international market rates, the exponential rise in fuel costs has triggered a severe wave of inflation, pushing prices of essential daily commodities to unprecedented highs and leaving citizens heavily burdened.
