According to the Concord Public Library, a man named John recently returned a copy of The Century Illustrated Monthly from September 1894.
A magazine issued 132 years ago was returned to a library in the US state of New Hampshire; however, the person who returned it will not have to pay a heavy fine. John told the librarians that this magazine had been in his house for many years, though he does not know how it got there. John stated that he decided to return the magazine after hearing the news that the library had frozen overdue fines for the current period.
The library humorously stated on social media that fortunately, John will not have to pay the $12,055 fine that would have accumulated for returning the magazine 48,220 days late. According to the library, this historical magazine will not be put back into general circulation, though it may be displayed in the Concord building.
