Power tariffs in Pakistan are set to rise as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) filed a petition seeking a PKR 2.52 per unit increase in electricity prices on account of Monthly Fuel Price Adjustment (FCA) for July.
If approved by NEPRA, the price hike will transfer an estimated financial impact of PKR 41 billion (including GST) onto power consumers.
Data submitted by CPPA highlights a heavy reliance on expensive energy sources in July, including diesel generation at PKR 54.47 per unit and furnace oil at PKR 50.07 per unit. Hydel power remained the dominant contributor, accounting for 39.81% of total power production.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will conduct a public hearing on August 27 to analyze the generation costs before rendering its decision.
