Prior to his engagement with President Trump, Prince Khalid consulted with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, emphasizing that Riyadh remains committed to diplomatic resolutions and de-escalation rather than a wider regional confrontation.
During discussions, the Saudi Defense Minister highlighted that recent targeted actions against Iranian-aligned militias in Iraq were a necessary response to direct threats against Saudi infrastructure. He clarified that the strike was not intended to spark a broader conflict, but to send an unequivocal message regarding the Kingdom’s determination to defend its national sovereignty.
According to reports, Prince Khalid also outlined the strategic divergence in regional approaches, noting that while Israeli leadership favors a more aggressive stance toward Iran, Saudi Arabia advocates for measured restraint and dialogue.
Additionally, the Defense Minister indicated that the operational response served as a strategic signal to Yemen’s Houthi movement. He affirmed that U.S. military intervention regarding the Houthis is unnecessary, as Saudi Arabia possesses full independent capability to address its security concerns while continuing diplomatic talks to secure long-term regional peace.
