Government Sets Ambitious Target of $100 Billion Maritime Economy by 2047.
In a major boost for the national economy, Pakistan’s maritime sector has received investment proposals worth $6 billion to $9 billion from international investors. Shifting global shipping routes in the Gulf region have turned the spotlight on Pakistan, positioning the country as a focal point for global maritime trade and regional connectivity.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced that the proposed investments cover critical infrastructure projects, including cargo terminals, LNG facilities, oil handling, and container terminals. He highlighted that Pakistan earned approximately $396 million in profits from the maritime sector during the previous fiscal year, leveraging its strategic geopolitical location.

Under the National Ports Master Plan, Pakistan is developing bunkering facilities, off-dock terminals, and expanded transshipment capacity. The minister stated that the government aims to transform Pakistan into a permanent regional maritime hub rather than a temporary alternative, with an overarching goal of growing the maritime economy to $100 billion by 2047 to generate employment, boost exports, and enhance GDP growth.
