India’s hosting of the recent BRICS summit drew widespread international criticism and ridicule following a series of diplomatic protocol lapses and the circulation of manipulated media by ruling party figures.
Social media users heavily criticized Indian officials after viral video footage emerged from the summit showing blatant disregard for diplomatic etiquette. During formal proceedings, India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, and Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, were caught on camera actively focused on eating meals while Russian and Iranian leaders delivered their official addresses.
Further compounding the embarrassment, the Modi administration faced severe backlash for sharing AI-generated and fabricated photographs claiming attendance by foreign dignitaries, including the Turkish President, in an apparent attempt to project inflated diplomatic achievements.
