The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab has significantly intensified its operations against sources of smog and air pollution, demolishing 158 illegal and non-compliant brick kilns across the province over the past 30 days.
According to official figures, field teams inspected 7,953 brick kilns and associated units between August 15 and September 15, taking strict legal action against violations of environmental standards. Alongside brick kilns, the EPA’s crackdown extends to heavy industrial units and other major pollution contributors, with field actions being ramped up ahead of the upcoming smog season to curb emissions and dust pollution.
Meanwhile, Lahore’s air quality is being continuously monitored, with the current Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 106. Environmental authorities note that local AQI fluctuations are heavily influenced by meteorological factors such as wind speed and directional shifts. Officials state that controlling local emission sources alongside favorable weather patterns will help improve the provincial capital’s air quality further in the coming days.
Director General EPA Punjab, Abdullah Sumbal/Sheikh, reiterated that anti-pollution operations will maintain steady momentum, ensuring indiscriminate action against all industrial units and brick kilns flouting environmental laws.
