A high-level meeting of Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) new management and Board of Directors was held to make crucial decisions regarding fleet expansion and operational enhancements.
According to sources, the PIA Board of Directors formally approved acquiring two Boeing 777 aircraft on a wet lease. These two wide-body jets will be sourced from the European airline Norse Atlantic for a duration of six months. Additionally, the board approved procuring three more aircraft on a dry lease, further expanding the national flag carrier’s active fleet.
Sources indicate that the newly acquired Boeing aircraft will be primarily deployed on long-haul routes to Europe and the United Kingdom. The addition of these planes is expected to boost flight frequencies, expand passenger capacity, and strengthen operational efficiency on lucrative international routes.
During the session, the board also reviewed the operational requirements of PIA’s existing fleet, directing management to accelerate the procurement of essential spare parts to maximize aircraft availability. Furthermore, discussions covered comprehensive financial and administrative matters aimed at turning around airline performance and stabilizing core operations.
