Final approval of Pakistan’s forthcoming five-year Auto Development and Export Policy (ADEP) has been conditioned upon prior review and consultation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), signaling further potential delays in its formal launch.
According to official sources, the Ministry of Industries and Production has finalized the draft policy, which outlines a comprehensive roadmap for domestic automotive sector growth, localization, and export incentives over the next five years. However, high-level approval remains on hold pending bilateral review talks during the upcoming IMF mission visit scheduled for late September.
Government officials confirmed that key fiscal parameters within the draft—including proposed tax concessions, tariff structures for imported knock-down kits, and export promotion subsidies—must align with Pakistan’s ongoing structural adjustment program. Consequently, official notification and implementation of the new policy framework are expected to face additional operational deferrals until the conclusion of the review negotiations.
