Instant messaging platform WhatsApp has expanded its Status updates functionality, allowing users to attach longer audio tracks to their temporary posts.
According to reports from tech tracking platform WABetaInfo, the platform is rolling out an update that extends the maximum length for background music tracks in Status updates to 30 seconds, doubling the previous 15-second limit. The enhancement offers users greater flexibility when attaching music clips to standalone photos, videos, or publishing audio tracks as direct Status updates.
The update introduces a dedicated clip-duration selector within the app’s built-in music editor, enabling creators to customize the specific section and length of a track before posting. The feature is currently being deployed across both Android and iOS beta channels via a phased server-side rollout and is expected to reach all global users in upcoming stable releases.
