Torrential monsoon rains swept through the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, triggering severe urban flooding across multiple low-lying neighborhoods and primary arterial roads.
According to Flood Control Room figures, Islamabad recorded its highest rainfall at Golra with 146 mm. In Rawalpindi, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) authorities declared a rain emergency as water levels in Nullah Lai soared to 20 feet, prompting warning sirens and evacuation advisories for nearby residents.
Severely affected residential zones in the Chaklala Cantonment—including Dhoke Kala Khan, Mumtaz Town, Banaras Town, and Afzal Town—saw floodwaters breach residential premises, rising up to 6 feet inside dozens of homes. The inundation caused extensive damage to vehicles, furniture, and electronic equipment, forcing residents to initiate self-help dewatering efforts. Main thoroughfares experienced severe traffic bottlenecks due to heavy waterlogging before rain intensity subsided and water levels in Nullah Lai began to recede.
