The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged a formal complaint against Sky Sports for broadcasting an interview with Qasim and Suleman Khan, the sons of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, during the lunch break on the first day of the Lord’s Test. According to The Guardian, the brothers discussed their father’s ongoing three-year imprisonment and expressed deep concern over his treatment and solitary confinement. In the interview, Qasim Khan stated that their father’s voice was being silenced through prolonged detention.
Reports indicate that PCB officials attempted to stop the broadcast prior to its airing. Following the broadcast, PCB representatives reportedly threatened to delay sending the Pakistani team back onto the field. However, officials from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) intervened and successfully mediated the situation, allowing the match to resume without further interruption.
While Sky Sports confirmed receiving the complaint, it declined to offer further comment. PCB officials have maintained their dissatisfaction over giving a broadcast platform to critics of the Pakistani government and have raised the issue with the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The PCB has assured ECB officials that the team will continue playing in the ongoing Lord’s Test.
