Armed clashes originating near the Tajik border in Badakhshan province have opened active fronts against the Taliban regime. Prominent resistance leadership, including Ahmad Massoud, General Yasin Zia, and General Sami Sadat, alongside various resistance movements, have intensified operations against the Taliban.
According to the prominent Afghan publication Afghanistan International, anti-Taliban movements such as the Afghanistan Freedom Front, the United Front, and the National Resistance Front launched at least 50 resistance actions against the Afghan Taliban in August alone. A recent United Nations report also highlights the deteriorating security situation, contradicting the Taliban’s claims of peace.
According to the latest UN Security Council report, 2,947 security incidents were recorded between May and July, marking an 11% increase compared to the previous year. Furthermore, 14 active armed opposition groups claimed responsibility for 88 major attacks across 21 provinces in the country.
The Times of Central Asia, a well-known publication focusing on Central Asian affairs, reported that the escalating threats of terrorism and infiltration stemming from Afghanistan have compelled Tajikistan and other member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to conduct the “Rubizh 2026” military exercise.
