Amid continuous surges in petroleum prices, the All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 7% increase in transport fares. Malik Shehzad Awan, President of the alliance, expressed strong outrage over the federal government’s pricing decisions.
In a video statement, Awan highlighted that over the preceding seven days, diesel prices spiked by Rs. 26.88 per liter while petrol rose by Rs. 20 per liter. Transporters nationwide strongly condemned the daily fluctuations and mounting prices, labeling the government’s revision mechanism unacceptable and demanding its immediate withdrawal.
Awan warned that flawed federal policies are driving transporters toward unemployment, prompting demands for targeted subsidies and relief across toll taxes, withholding taxes, and other levies. He recalled that federal and provincial governments previously entered into agreements during a countrywide strike held from August 8 to August 17, granting authorities a 40-day deadline that expires next week.
The alliance president cautioned that failure to implement these agreements by the deadline will trigger a nationwide strike by transporters across Pakistan, emphasizing that operating transport services under current petroleum rates is impossible without government relief.
