England seamers Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue celebrated a rare dual achievement in a unique fashion after both bowl-out performances helped dismiss Pakistan for 171 on the opening day of the first Test at Headingley.
Traditionally, a bowler taking a five-wicket haul keeps the match ball as a souvenir. However, after both fast bowlers took five wickets apiece in the same innings, Robinson suggested splitting the match ball into two equal halves so both could keep a piece of history. Ground staff assisted team manager Wayne Bentley in cutting the ball in two shortly after the day’s play ended.
Josh Tongue finished with figures of 5 for 46, while Ollie Robinson took 5 for 51, marking the first time since 2006 that two England bowlers took five-wicket hauls in the same Test innings. By the close of play on Day 1, England reached 112 for 2 in reply.
