He claimed Tehran is attempting to influence the US midterm vote in hopes of negotiating with political opponents, adding that the primary objective of the US military campaign remains preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
However, reports from US media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, highlight a sharp contradiction within the administration. Senior White House officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have reportedly warned President Trump in private briefings that Iran may continue resisting US pressure, potentially dragging the conflict out through the end of his presidency in January 2029. Meanwhile, global energy markets remain severely strained by the war, with crude oil prices surging past $100 per barrel due to shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
