Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia has stated that both the men’s and women’s Asia Cup trophies will ultimately reach the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
This statement comes after the Indian women’s cricket team declined to receive the winners’ trophy and medals from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi last week. Prior to this, following the men’s Asia Cup final last year, India had similarly avoided receiving the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi.
Speaking to the media after BCCI’s 95th Annual General Meeting in Mumbai, Devajit Saikia stated that while he cannot provide a definitive timeline or date for the return of the trophies, he is confident that both will arrive at the BCCI office in Mumbai. It is worth noting that the women’s team won the Asia Cup by defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs.
According to the Indian board, the decision not to receive the trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi was not sudden; rather, it was a pre-planned and institutional decision about which the ACC had been informed beforehand.
