The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially relocated the hosting rights for the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy from Sri Lanka to India. The decision comes in the wake of ongoing government interference in Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and governance issues, following which the ICC Board selected India as the replacement host despite interest from Bangladesh and South Africa.
The tournament matches will take place across Mumbai and Vadodara. Unlike the men’s 50-over Champions Trophy, the historic six-team women’s tournament will be played in the T20 format.
The participating teams—Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka—will compete in a round-robin stage, with the top two teams advancing directly to the final. Meanwhile, the ICC stated that Sri Lanka Cricket must continue implementing the administrative reforms outlined during the July annual conference.
